On Twitter,
referred to this week as “dead week” and I had a slight problem…I have the privilege of having the week off, as does my wife, so we went to Tampa Bay.
Family is here too, so they took the kids here and there which was completely nice.
We were also without a car, which means we didn’t do as much in the area as we usually do.
That said, New York has been an overwhelmingly busy place for us, it’s ingrained in the culture, and we’re trying as hard as we can to fight against that temptation to do “more.”
Our weekends are slow. We try and take a Sabbath rest. The kids don’t have a bunch of formal weekend activities, we let them do that mostly after school. That may change in the future, but it’s what we need for now.
No matter your situation, I hope you had at least a few days off for Christmas and/or New Year’s.
That said, this week will be short, but here are a few things on Medium I wrote recently that you may like:
More Things
My 2023 books list has one more entry: this weirdly apocalyptic/philosophical novel by Douglas Coupland called Player One (no not Ready). Strangers in a bar that end up in a foxhole situation. Enjoyable, not sure I’d recommend it?
Just started with Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster, cracked open Daisy Jones and The Six (I liked the show!) and a marketing book called Dotcom Secrets by Russell Brunson.
I put together this Reading Journal template on Notion if you’re interested. Only a few dollars.
“Cool People Actually Saved America’s Feet” at The Atlantic.
Catching up on Barry on HBO.
Last Things
“Rest and be thankful.” ― William Wadsworth
Keep going,

Rest week is a great term, thanks.
I've got a week off from editing and also from voice lessons. So I've been reading more, am engrossed by Mary Beard's witty history Emperor of Rome which is organized by theme, not chronology. And I've been reading my voice journals from almost my first lessons and enjoying the journey's ups and downs. This is the personal essay I published early on: https://www.levraphael.com/healthyaging-levraphael.pdf
