Things to share this weekend (10/26/24)
photographer Robert Frank, pulp fiction, a poem I liked + reading notes
I was laid off last week so I had some extra time on my hands…1
…and I went to the Museum of Modern Art and became a member and then ate a gyro on the street after seeing…
1. Robert Frank Photography Exhibit (Museum of Modern Art)
At the MoMa, there’s a great exhibit on the photographer Robert Frank, whom I hadn’t heard of before, but he was around in the 50s, 60s, 70s and took photos of a lot of artistic celebrities, like Beat writers and James Baldwin and Norman Mailer and early Rolling Stones.
He was also a chronicler of America, much like Walker Evans in years past.
And it’s always nice to ride the subway a few stops and see Picassos and Van Goghs and Matisses.
I skipped by the masses taking photos of Starry Night, but I did snap photos of a few others, perhaps I’ll share some of those soon.
2. Pulp Fiction is 30 years old (Variety)
Great oral history of 20+ people involved with the making of the film.
I didn’t have a Pulp Fiction poster in my dorm room, and I’ve seen the film maybe 2x. But I do appreciate directors with specific visions and Tarantino is/was that.
3. Can the media survive? (NY Mag)
A big piece about the state of news, and I read this in print. On the subway, the way it was meant to be.
4. A Scene from a Movie Playing in the Background of Another Movie (Had Magazine)
This is a poem, a good one!
5. A Controversial Rare-Book Dealer Tries to Rewrite His Own Ending (New Yorker)
Good profile on a (controversial) rare book dealer and I loved this line:
A dealer named Rick Gekoski told me, “Glenn saw, in a way that few of the rest of us did, that if you want to make serious money you need to spend ninety-five per cent of your time with the five per cent of your clients who will provide ninety-five per cent of your income.”
Notes on reading/watching:
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihira
Just getting to the super sad parts
Ended up buying a used copy b/c it’s very long
Dynamics of Spiritual Life by Richard Lovelace
Theology + history of Christian revivals
(Wanted to read) The Bee Sting by Paul Murray
Heard good things, but A Little Life is taking up a lot of my time)
Keep going-

Hit me up for any digital marketing roles!
A Little Life affected me more than most novels I’ve read. I often think of rereading it but am too scared.
